A Gay Jewish Psyche

When I first started to face my psyche in a gay-affirmative way, I discovered the presence of many different people. There was the inferior child self. There was the inner mother and the inner father. Through my dreams and active imagination, I also discovered the presence of a ghetto Jew. I have always felt myself to be a ghetto Jew, both in terms of how I feel myself to have lived many lives, but also in terms of the “I see you” look on this man’s face, the capacity to see right into the eyes of evil and of oppression. On the other hand, I discovered a beautiful man in an state of ecstasy, the erotic soul image. Learning how to dialogue with these presences and help them come into some type of healthy relationship has been part of my life’s work.
